Philosophy and Cognitive Science in the Heart of Chełmno
The Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences at the 9 Hills Festival
Another edition of the 9 Hills Festival in Chełmno is behind us—a unique cultural and educational event dedicated to bridging the worlds of culture, art, and science. Since 2016, the festival has transformed the historic courtyards, cellars, and squares of the Old Town into a vibrant space for dialogue and creative exchange. This year’s edition centered around nine unique historic landmarks of the city, with the historic Chełmno Academy serving as its honorary patron.
As part of the Year of Science Popularization, Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń (NCU) has taken an active role in this mission by creating a dedicated zone for festival guests in Chełmno’s Old Town. Our Faculty had a strong presence at the 'NCU Science Courtyard’ (Naukowe Podwórko UMK). During our 'Science Chats’ (Naukowe Pogawędki), we set aside formal academic barriers in favor of open conversation, curious questions, and shared passion:
- Milena Celebudzka, MA (PhD candidate at the Department of Cognitive Science) took attendees on a journey through the fascinating workings of the human mind—at the intersection of the brain, body, and technology—explaining what happens inside our heads and why.
- Marcin T. Zdrenka, PhD, DSc, Assoc. Prof. (Institute of Philosophy, host of the 'Philosophical Chatroom’ podcast) engaged festival-goers in an open discussion exploring fundamental philosophical questions.
