Tomasz Komendziński, PhD

Assistant Professor
Research Areas
He focuses on interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research, integrating methods and tools for the study of the brain and mind. His work includes the theory of communication as sharing, embodied cognitive sciences, and applications of cognitive science in medicine, particularly deep and embodied medicine, and the use of machine learning to identify dementia biomarkers in collaboration with RIKEN AIP. This research explores new competencies for medicine using modern technologies, large data repositories, and artificial intelligence, illustrated by studies on disorders of consciousness and neurodegeneration within projects such as Society 5.0 (Japan), AI for Social Good (Google), and the Inclusive Society (OECD). In collaboration with RIKEN AIP, he works on dementia biomarker detection using machine learning in passive brain-computer interface (BCI) paradigms. He also promotes Inside Out Health Neuroscience, focusing on interoception, interoceptive body awareness (respiratory rhythms, emotional regulation), mind-wandering, and prospective memory, studying the weakening of mind/brain–body–environment coupling (embodiment) in older adults. Inside Out Health Neuroscience is an original approach integrating the latest scientific findings to understand body-brain interactions and their health implications.
