Cognitive Science Association in Toruń – a space of passion and creativity
The Cognitive Science Association in Toruń (TKK) is the heart of student life in the Cognitive Science program at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń—a place where curiosity meets action, and interdisciplinary interests take shape. The Association brings together students who want not only to explore issues related to the mind and cognitive processes, but also to collaborate on projects, develop skills, and build community.
There’s something for everyone in our Association—from projects related to user experience, graphics, and media, through VR and artificial intelligence research, to neuroanatomical workshops and podcast creation. Members run their own sections, organize workshops, meetings, and creative activities that transcend typical academic pursuits, combining learning with passion and personal interests. The Association’s diverse sections ensure everyone can find an area in which to experiment, create, and develop their strengths.
TKK is also involved in numerous initiatives that go beyond standard student activities, co-organizing conferences, integration events, and social campaigns that strengthen bonds between members and the local community. It participates in charitable projects such as Nobe Gift, collaborating with the Let!Arte Foundation, supporting educational and artistic initiatives. Additionally, it takes part in cultural and development projects, creating a space for the exchange of experiences and collaborative action.
Main Event
Brain Awareness Week
Brain Awareness Week is a fascinating annual event held in March, featuring workshops, lectures, and educational booths. Its aim is to popularize knowledge about the brain and cognitive processes in an accessible, interactive, and inspiring way.
Neuromania
Neuromania is an international cognitive science conference organised by TKK, which has held nine editions so far. The event brings together students, researchers, and practitioners interested in the study of the mind, brain, and cognition.
Blood Donation
This event involves collective donation at a local centre. The initiative promotes voluntary blood donation and provides real help to those in need. By sharing this precious gift, we directly contribute to saving lives.
Noble Gift
TKK participates annually in the nationwide Noble Gift charity initiative, preparing aid packages for families or individuals in need. The project brings members together around a shared goal and promotes social solidarity.
Social Integration
TKK organizes regular social outings for its members, such as ice skating, kayaking trips, or escape room visits. These activities strengthen team bonds and encourage integration outside the academic setting.
Kognisko
An annual integration kognisko for students, alumni, and academic staff, organized every June for several years. The event fosters informal conversation, networking, and intergenerational exchange.
Help the Animal Shelter
As part of its cooperation with a local animal shelter, TKK organises donation drives and participates in walking dogs. These activities combine social engagement with tangible support for local initiatives.
UX Section Meetings
UX Section meetings are a series of events with professionals who have experience in the UX industry. Participants gain insight into practical aspects of UX work and have the opportunity to ask experts questions.
